On Friday 6th February, we hosted a Transition Conference focused on how we can better support children in our wider community as they move from Year 6 into Year 7.
The message throughout the day was clear: transition is not simply a move from Year 6 to Year 7 - it is a process of belonging.
This work is about collaboration. Schools coming together to support the children we serve, preparing them not just academically, but socially and emotionally. Improving transition means working on the system, not just in the system, and recognising that this journey does not begin or end at the school gate.
As Phillipa Harris, Deputy CEO of Invictus, powerfully captured:
“Transition is not a handover. It is a continuation. And our moral responsibility is simple… we must not drop the baton.”
Thank you also to Agnes Fitzpatrick for sharing such compelling national data on pupil engagement at secondary transition and highlighting why this work matters.
A sincere thank you to all the schools who joined us today, including the pupils who contributed with such confidence. Their thoughtful insights and strong public speaking were a real credit to their schools and added huge value to the day. We look forward to continuing to collaborate!
