Mr I Nock

Director of Maths

Mr Nock completed his degree, BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, at the University of Aston. As part of this 4-year sandwich degree, he also gained invaluable skills and experience in the construction industry as a site engineer on his 12-month work placement in the Black Country. After graduation, Mr Nock continued to work as a site engineer in and around the Midlands before deciding to go and see the world. After many adventures travelling around Asia, Australasia and the Americas, he returned to complete a PGCE in teaching mathematics at the University of Birmingham.

Following an enjoyable and successful PGCE, Mr Nock secured his first role as a maths teacher at Catholic Girls’ school in Birmingham before moving on to a large comprehensive school in Dudley. After several successful years Mr Nock was offered a promotion to work a large comprehensive school with a Sixth Form in the Cannock area. Within a shot period of time Mr Nock was promoted to Head of Department and worked with Keele University on their accelerated maths teacher programme, a mentor to trainee PGCE students from Wolverhampton University and also worked with Staffordshire LEA maths team and other Heads of maths on a variety of collaborative projects for all the county maths teams. After 8 successful years there and travelling on the M6, it was time for the next challenge! Mr Nock was recruited as a maths consultant for a large Worcestershire school and initially was employed to develop the maths team and improve the maths results. This role was further extended to work with Core subjects and a role on the Senior Leadership team. During this time at this school the role further developed to Vice Principal and Mr Nock led all Heads of Department, managed assessment, exams, data analysis and led Sixth Form. However, he still loved being in the classroom teaching students and sharing his experience and expertise with other maths teachers and leaders. This new role at Invictus provided a perfect opportunity to do this!
