Leasowes D&T Students to Represent Central England at the F1 In Schools National Final

January 21, 2019

The Leasowes Design & Technology department entered three teams into this year’s F1 in Schools central regional finals at the EEF Technology Training Hub, Birmingham. Two teams entered the Development class (age 14-19) and the other one into Entry class (age 11-14). The teams had taken up the challenge to design, build (using CAD/CAM), test and race a miniature F1 car. The teams were judged in a number of categories including scrutineering, engineering, verbal presentation, pit display and enterprise portfolio, as well as the car’s speed being tested on the Official F1 in Schools track. The track everyone races on is a 20 metre long drag strip, which the F1 in Schools F1 cars cover in just over a second.

The day was a massive success, as all of the teams won a variety of different awards, including 1st place in the Development class. The two development class teams will now represent central England and compete against the top fourteen teams/regions from the United Kingdom at the national final on 11th March. The winner of the national final will represent the UK at the world finals against approximately forty countries. Last year’s event was held in Singapore;
