Kinver High School UK Maths Team Challenge
On Tuesday four gifted and talented mathematicians were given the opportunity to represent Kinver High School at the UK Maths Team Challenge.
This is the third year that students have attended the Wolverhampton Girls’ School for a day of solving complex Mathematical challenges, working as a team in four increasingly difficult rounds. The rounds ranged from a relay-style round where students have to run across the hall to get questions, to a crossnumber round where students have to work in pairs to fill in either the ‘Across’ or the ‘Down’ clues without being able to see the other half of the clues!
As always, the Kinver students worked extremely hard, and this year we were consistently in the top few scoring teams up until the last round. After a very difficult final round we were delighted to discover that we had placed 10th out of around 30 schools from the area; our best ever place! Tegan Hands and Jamie Bruce from Year 9, who both attended last year, were thrilled to have improved from last year’s result, and Lottie Davies and Lucy Green from Year 8 both said they had a great day and would love to be able to attend again next year.
Mathematics teacher, Miss Elvidge, who accompanied the students, said: “The students represented Kinver fantastically; they put in their absolute all and I am over the moon with how well they have done. They were so polite and helpful throughout the day; real ambassadors for the school.”
