Invictus Youth Speaks

9 July 2019

On Monday 1st July, Crestwood, Ellowes, Kinver, Ounsdale and Pedmore students took to the stage for the first ‘Invictus Speaks’ judged by CEO Tony Bowles. Hosted at Ellowes, 9 teams debated issues such as gender equality, surveillance and the definition of ‘cool.’

Each team consisted of a chairperson who introduced their team and topic, a main speaker who passionately outlined the group’s position and a vote of thanks who summarised the key points. To be successful, students needed to engage the audience using humour, clearly structure their argument and answer a challenging question from the judge.

The standard was incredibly high and eventually the winning Key Stage Three team were announced as Ellowes and the winning Key Stage Four team announced as Pedmore. Congratulations also to Crestwood who were the Key Stage Three runners up and Kinver for finishing second in the Key Stage Four category. All participants received a certificate and the winners were also rewarded with gift vouchers. It was a remarkable evening and in the words of the judge, just wow!

We are looking forward to next year’s event already.
